The Cracker Jack Prize
When the task is about getting a prize at the bottom of the box, I become distracted by the search and forget to enjoy the caramel corn along the way.
As a child, I was obsessed with cracker jacks. Our uncle would come to visit and bring a multi-pack of cracker jacks. My grandmother would let me pour the box out into a mixing bowl so I could get right to the prize. No shaking the box and digging my fingers into the bottom, hunting for the prize. It was cheating, I know now. I call it cheating now because our days should not be a race to the prize. Instead, taking the opportunity to savor the moments along the way matters more. There was a time when I took the race over the prize. I was in a college hiking group with a leader who was all about getting from point A to point B, usually the top of one peak or another. I did not last as a group member because I was all about eating the berries on the trail between point A and point B. The group often moved on to the next stop before I could catch up.
Here is what I am reading now.
Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky What can I say it's heavier than what I have been reading. I may put on some mental weight when I read it the second time. It will be a 20-hour read, and I am just getting stuck in. I will give an update later.
Deep Thoughts
A thought from James Clear about getting started. Set a date to do something bold. No need to prepare once you set a date to start. The path will become evident once you are on your way.
