Secrets in the Legion Of Honor

Secrets in the Legion Of Honor
Cousin Marcia and I had fun hamming it up at the Legion of Honor

Today is the end of my two weeks of house sitting for my sister in San Francisco. I am not used to living in a place with stairs. It finally occurred to me this week that I should carry everything around in a backpack this week to save some steps. My Cousin In-law Marcia had tickets to see the Obama portraits on Wednesday, and today we saw more art at the Legion of Honor, where we hammed up our photos by telling secrets to statues and each other. I want to thank all the people who work there for the work they do. Also, I want to slap all the people who go to a public exhibit without a mask. Friday, I head home to my waiting husband and jindo do.

What I am working on.

I am looking for simple things I can do, and pot gardening seems to tick all the boxes.

The most important part of my job these last two weeks was to water the garden. I started working out in my mind how I could have more gardening in my apartment building. I think my husband will be happy to have me take more interest in our side yard. We are losing all of our front gardens which will be replaced with low water usage planting. The side garden will have to consider our new water restrictions.

What I am reading

The Way The World Really Works | Vaclav Smil

The book shows how dependent we are on oil, steel, concrete, and of all things, we never think about fertilizer. The stuff we use for fertilizer is oil-dependent and accounts for half our food production worldwide. It takes an academic like Smil to point these issues out to us. It will take us decades to replace or mitigate the use of these pillars of what makes our society tick. The current situation in Europe drives this situation home for me.

On the one hand, the EU is trying to fund the Ukrainian army in its struggle against Russia, while on the other hand has no choice but to buy oil from Russia. There is no quick fix to changing our ways, even when lives are on the line. It's frustrating to realize that the fix for global warming is decades away, and it is essential to get started on the solutions immediately.
