Lincoln Highway, Choices, & The Summer Reading List.
We have finished up a big around-the-building project. We turned and leased two apartments. I like it when there is more than one unit to show, because it's so much easier to sell something when it's a choice between two options. Having two options takes no off the table long enough to make a pitch. The choice between a & b opens up for more success than yes & no. Choosing no is something like a universal response. . I use choice in my habits and best practices. For example, working out is either A walking the dog now or B walking the husband later. Not exercise yes or no. Thinking about the choices makes committing to one of the options more focused in my mind. My brother used the choice tactic on his kids. Getting ready for bed was a choice between two sets of PJs, not about getting in bed. I have a variety of mind-numbing tasks in my life. They seem to expand with time. To get them done, I have strung them together with a choice trick, I agree to do A, B, an C by picking the order.
What Am I Reading This Week?
The Lincoln Highway | By: Amor Towles
It's just started for me and already we have a sad back story of death and forclosure, and the makings of an escapade. The novel is set in the 1950's in one of the square states where the population was not changing. The young man just out of prison is picking up his younger brother and ready to strike out into a new life. I love that he stops at the library reference desk to confirm his facts. He can't decide between California, his young brothers choice and Texas his first choice. I will to follow up next week with my review. I am digging the three voices in the audio book version on Audible.
