Deadlines and Screwdrivers - The Dudes Abide
I love my life when everything works out as planned. For the rest of the time, I have deadlines. I have a weekly publishing deadline set for Thursdays, so if I have not written over the previous week, I make myself sit down in the morning and gather my thoughts. Sometimes the draft I am working on becomes dead to me, and I have to start over. That is the value of a deadline.
What I am working on this week
A computer upgrade project I have been pondering for a few months. My 2017 MacBook has a tiny hard drive. I have no room to upgrade to the new operating system. Also, there is no room for further work. So I have moved all my pictures, documents, and publishing files to an external drive. My little MacBook man warns me that my hard drive is full every day. I found a step-by-step guide on backing up my machine and replacing the small drive with a new drive on Youtube. Honestly, there must be a dozen videos on the subject. The one I liked for laying out the whole project will be the topic of a future blog post.
What I am reading this week
Alex worked for the Coen Brothers during the making of The Big Lebowski. He asked the brothers to allow him to write a story about his experience of working for them. They agreed, for which we can be thankful. It is a sweet story about landing a dream job and making a movie that turned into a cult classic. There are some great backstories about how they tried to cast the big Lebowski character and how scenes came to be. My husband and I gave the casting problem a go and ran into the same issue they did how to pick an older male American actor who was not already dead at the time of filming. Spoiler alert - - - Alex gets high and fired and rehired. It made me love the Coen Brothers more. I want to watch the film again now.
Also, I am deep into part six of Crime and Punishment, where the characters ask the devil take everyone - I am starting to think up a proper Russian name for my dog.
