Hey, That is my Desk Idea, Travel and Be Inspired.

We rent small apartments in our building, so I have mused over clever ideas about making them more functional. One idea is Murphy beds in the studio units. We put a Murphy bed in the second bedroom of our apartment. That was a very DIY build. We bought a kit. We don't get many visitors, but recently Mark started to put the bed down so the dog can lay on it and get pets while he works at his desk in the same room. My ideas about the studios include nested storage that rolls up against a wall to hide a sleeping area or a desk. This is a story of my other idea. I concocted some nested or fold-away functionality for my desk that would hide behind a TV stand in our living room. My idea was to hack our existing ikea TV cart. I wanted to morph it into a hideaway desk on the back side with the big tv mounted on the front. I have linked my video of the idea and a fancy YouTube design show version that puts mine to shame. I love the family in the video taking the apartment and its' high-tech automated furniture for a spin with their kids putting all the buttons through their what-if fail-safe modes.

My version is all on wheels in my mind. Having things on motors, as in the fancy version, worries me because what happens if the power goes out and you need to get into your desk, which is closed up with a dead motorized track?

It also reminds me of when I stayed in NY in a similar high-rise with a view looking south from midtown. It made Seattle feel small upon my return. However, I love New York; it's exciting, with so much to see and do. Getting out of town is one of my favorite things to inspire creativity. So check this NY place out.

Someone in NY created a super slick fold-away apartment that is my style.
