Hello? Is it me you are looking for?
The More Technology Prys Into My Life, The Less I Want To Participate.
I called a client this morning, she did not answer, so when the message option came up, I was going to leave a message. Yes, I am that old. Only older people leave messages anymore. Anyway, the mailbox was full. Then it clicked—what a great hack. If I let my mailbox stay full, no one can leave a message that I have to listen to, and no telemarketer can leave me a bogus infomercial to fix my student loans. All the communication technology is getting hijacked by advertising that I no longer want to participate in ever. I want to walk into the store, see my neighbor and say hi. I want to answer every call and have a real person who wants to talk to me on the other end. That is one avenue of communication I will not back down from. If my phone rings, I will answer. I may have to hang up often on fake calls but answering the phone is something I will always say hello to.
I long for direct contact with people, sitting on the patio at the House of Pies with my fancy old lady dog in a scarf having a chat with folks sitting at the table next to me. No technology, no ads, simple human contact. I hope it's me you are looking for.
